Plastic Free Port Stephens – We did it!

Plastic is littering our oceans, beaches, gutters and pretty much everywhere we look.

So today we spent the morning, along with dozens of volunteers working together to clean up our local beach area here at Birubi Beach, Anna Bay in Port Stephens.

WOW, what we day we had, we had postcard-perfect weather, a mild day with very little wind and a team of outstanding, like-minded volunteers that worked tirelessly to help in making Port Stephens Plastic Free.

A big thanks to everyone who showed up today we had a truly amazing turnout. Special thanks to Troy from Waste to Go for coming with his trailer and manning the sorting station (along with his family!!). Then carting everything we collected back to our place for counting and more sorting!

We know it’s a massive undertaking cleaning our beaches but today we cleared a massive 122.9 kilograms of rubbish!! Plus 31.6 kg of microplastic!

28.3kg of plastic rubbish (hard and soft)
18.2kg general rubbish
1.1kg polystyrene
47kg glass
28.3kg metal scraps
31.6kg skimmed small /microplastic pieces
3 Needles
20 pieces approx. asbestos pieces

And a big shout out to the Anna Bay Butchers for their help with sausages … they went down a treat with all our volunteers!

Thanks again for supporting us here 4WD Tours R Us, we could not have done it without your help!
