Visit Tin City these school holidays

Have you been thinking about a trip to Tin City?

If you missed last night’s sunset then you missed one of the most beautiful sunsets we have had all winter. But don’t worry; we took lots of photos to share with you (and PS how photogenic do our trucks look?!).

The dunes are looking quite spectacular at the moment after the recent rains. Yesterday we headed out to Tin City and noticed that the low-lying areas of the Stockton Bight dune system had formed several local lakes. These lakes form in low-lying areas (swales) of the dune system and in times of heavy rainfall, the surface runoff accumulates in a swale – a trough or shallow depression between the crests of coastal dunes.

The rainwater filtrates the sand dunes with relative ease and eventually, the sand becomes saturated and the water table rises. Once the warmer weather returns the swale dries out and the water table retreats. By this time, however, much of the protective vegetation has drowned and the sand is now left exposed.

While you are out you may even spot a whale or two as you travel the short distance to and from Tin City. And keep your eye out for dolphins, white-bellied sea eagles, and the pied oystercatcher birds.

After we visit Tin City we will take you sandboarding and let you experience the thrill of sliding down our sandboarding hill – it can be up to 50 meters high! Our instructors will give you all the tips for maximum safety & speed on our custom made sandboards.

You will be having so much fun you will want to go again and again!

We have several trips out to Tin City that include unlimited sandboarding while you are in Port Stephens over the school holidays click here to reserve your seat as they book out quickly.

Your ticket includes unlimited sandboarding (or unlimited fun!) so you can stay and play as long as you like. When you are done just jump back aboard our 4WD buses (they leave every half an hour) to be taken back to the Birubi Beach starting point. It’s an amazing experience for everyone, no matter your age.

Whatever you choose to do while in Port Stephens you will be mesmerised by the beauty and size of the Stockton Beach Sand dunes.
